40 Watt Club Intern

Sept 2025 - Present Athens, GA
Working at the legendary 40 Watt Club has been one of the most immersive experiences in my journey toward a career in live music and booking. In this role, I’ve had the unique opportunity to contribute both behind the scenes and on the front lines of a historic venue that has shaped Athens’ music culture.

My work spans multiple parts of the venue’s operations. On show days, I work as a member of the venue's staff, rotating where I am needed, supporting from ticketing, door operations, security, merchandise sales, and crowd flow, gaining firsthand experience in how a venue functions during peak hours. I also assist with artist load-in and load-out, hospitality needs, and ensuring touring crews have what they need to settle in quickly and comfortably.

Beyond operational experience, the most meaningful part of my role has been shadowing the 40 Watt’s Talent Buyer, where I’ve been able to observe booking workflows, advancing show information, and communication with agents and promoters. Being exposed to the real decision-making process behind building a venue calendar has strengthened my understanding of booking strategy and artist relations and it helped solidify my long-term goal of becoming a booking agent.

Working at the 40 Watt has given me a ground-level understanding of how artists, fans, and staff come together to create a successful show. It’s taught me the importance of hospitality, pace, communication, and the countless moving pieces that make live music happen night after night.

My internship with AthFest Music Festival was an incredibly rewarding experience, and strengthened my passion for a career in the music business. Being someone who really enjoys the local music scene in my college town, this was one of my favorite experiences during my college career.

As the Booking Intern, I worked closely with Booking Coordinator Troy Aubrey to help assemble a lineup of more than
130 artists performing across multiple stages throughout downtown Athens. The role placed me at the center of Athens’ vibrant local music culture and gave me firsthand exposure to how a nonprofit festival is programmed, organized, and executed.

Throughout the spring, I evaluated 450+ performer applications, identifying artists who aligned with AthFest’s mission to uplift local music and support AthFest Educates, the nonprofit funding music and arts education for Athens youth. I created and distributed performer agreement contracts, ensured compensation and deliverables were fulfilled as outlined, and collected promotional assets like photos, biographies, and logos to ensure every artist was represented accurately on the festival website. Using WordPress, I updated artist pages and maintained key booking and scheduling information.

In addition to administrative booking responsibilities, I attended monthly festival committee meetings, where I learned the internal operations of festival planning, cross-department communication, and decision-making. When festival weekend arrived, I assisted with onsite hospitality, distributed comp wristbands, supported venue ticketing operations, and helped communicate with performers and vendors to keep the event running smoothly.
